COMET Auckland’s heritage
Our former organisation, the City of Manukau Education Trust was born out of the commitment of the mayor and councillors to better education provision in Manukau City, and was formally established as a Charitable Trust in October 1999.
Under the provisions of the Local Government Act 2002, COMET became a Council Controlled Organisation (CCO), which means that Council appoints our Board of Trustees and contracts with us for some of our work.
COMET Auckland – Looking to the future of education in the city
Our Vision: All Aucklanders have the right to shine and realise their dreams through lifelong learning
Our Mission: Driving systems change to make education and skills more effective and equitable across Auckland.
We will:
- Listen – Build community relationships across the city by listening to their education needs and issues
- Learn – Share our learning, advocate by analysing, using and disseminating education information as a basis for decision-making, champion the needs of all Aucklanders among decision-makers, with a focus on areas of high education need
- Collaborate – Act as a go-between and provide the right expertise for community organisations to run effective initiatives
- Connect – Join the dots, liaise between communities, Council, MoE, and education organisations, and provide leadership by catalysing connected, evidence-based action
