LAUNCH OF THE FINANCIAL LITERACY PRACTITIONERS NETWORK

On the 6th of September, we held the launch of the Auckland Financial Literacy Practitioners and Providers Network, as part of Money Week 2013. The network is a partnership between the Commission for Financial Literacy and Retirement and COMET Auckland.

Guests at the event heard from a range of speakers from the Commission for Financial Literacy and Retirement Income (CFLRI) who touched on some key issues and ideas affecting the financial literacy space, including:

  • Diane Maxwell, Retirement Commissioner, who spoke about local networks and the national strategy for financial literacy
  • Malcolm Menzies, Group Manager for Research & Corporate Services, on what the recent NZ Financial Literacy Knowledge and Behaviour survey means for providers and practitioners in Auckland
  • Clementine Ludlow, Interim Auckland Financial Literacy Education Advisor, who gave a showcase of innovative community financial literacy programmes

At the end of the event we sought feedback from participants as to what they would like from the network. We have received very comprehensive information which will shape up future meeting purpose structure, content and presenters. We have also established a LinkedIn group to keep the network connected and we encourage you to join if you work in the financial literacy space and want to keep up to date with the latest conversations and literacy knowledge-sharing.
