About COMET Auckland

He Whakatauki

me titiro tātou ki ngā mea pai ka puta mai.
  Ātana wā,
me titiro hoki
ki ngā raranga i makere
nā te mea, he kōrero anō kei reira.

The tapestry of understanding
can not be woven by one strand alone.
Only by the working together of strands
and the working together of weavers
will such a tapestry be completed.
With its completion
let us look at the good that comes from it
and, in time we should also look
at those stitches which have been dropped,
because they also have a message.

nā Kūkupa Tirikatene

COMET Auckland is here to advance education for Auckland by supporting and connecting education initiatives across the city.

COMET Auckland has come a long way since its inception as the City of Manukau Education Trust in 1998.

In July 2012, COMET Auckland was launched by Auckland Council Mayor Len Brown, as an evolution of the City of Manukau Education Trust (COMET). As part of this evolution, we have made changes to our name, logo, governance and a location shift to reflect our city-wide remit.

Before launching as COMET Auckland, we connected and consulted with our stakeholders and listened to how they view us, what we are doing well and what needs work.

We reflected on what we heard and saw opportunities to learn and improve. Through listening, learning, collaborating and connecting, COMET Auckland was launched with a renewed vision for the future of education.

COMET Auckland is here to create spaces for people to connect in order to advance education and skills for Auckland. We do this by listening, sharing learning, coordinating, collaborating and analysing data that forms an evidence-based decision making process. As a Legacy CCO, COMET Auckland also plays an important role as intermediary, advocate, and connector between the Council, the education sector, and the many different education, skills and training providers in Auckland.
